Door locking issues!!!

Door locking issues!!!
Car information:
2005 c230K
Everything is stock

So the story behind it is. my mom found the cover that surrounding the drivers door mechanism ( the part that holds the door to the car).

Now the drivers door can not lock when the door is open. and when you manually lock the door by pushing down on the lock when its open, when you close it the door pops to unlock. but when the door is close the clicker does work to lock and unlock it.

i am so confused on what to do to fix this

its working properly. that's the "anti lock your key in the car" feature. not sure if that's what it's called. lol
