How do I troubleshoot my power windows?

Hi

Recently my driver side powered window failed. I took the door card off. When I push the button, I can hear a small tick (sounds like a relay) inside the control module. The same sound is audible from the other doors. So my guess is that the buttons and control module is okay.

But has anyone got any ideas on how to troubleshoot the module or electric motor? What/where can I measure with my multimeter?

Thanks for all help/advices.

well test to see if the motor gets power, see if the regulator is jammed as well as to see if the motor works off the regulator.

Well, the question is how? I cannot access the motor itself without drilling out the rivets that hold the airbag in place, and then remove the airbag. I can offcourse access the wires at the controlmodule-end. Here is a pic:

On the far right connector I measure 12v between the thick white and white/red wires. So the module has power in. See text on the pic. Where should I see 12V? Tried measuring between black and ground, and green and ground while operating the switch. BUT: There is a relay clicking once I operate the switch, which I guess cuts the power. So I don't think I am able measure anything at this point even if the module is OK.

Suggestions, anyone?

Am I better off going to the dealer to have it diagnosed with MB Star? Can they find the problem with that kind of equipment? I do not want to change parts that is not bad.

So, I took the car to a local workshop. They diagnosed (not with MB star), but could not find any modules for the windows. They believe my car does not have can-bus controlled windows.

It is a 2001 C200 kompressor, BTW.

It does they just need star to see them. Sadly I can't think of a good way to test it even if you had star all you can do is put the window up and down that's about it. I would say you have to bite the bullet and take the motor out of the car for testing unless someone has a clue what each of those wires do

Ok. Thanks for your input. I'll tear it down.
