Ordered Door Key slot cover and Center caps for wheels

I orded the little plug that covers the key hole today it was only 1.23 probably the cheapest benz item I can buy.

I was also able to purchase the flat MB laurel emblem from the coupe hood to modify for my aftermarket wheels.

They are 11 bucks a piece. I didn't realize they were such cheap plastic and upon closer inspection realized the hood emblem is the same. I will post some pics when I get them on the car.

What do you mean by the plug that covers the key hole? Any pics? What is it for?

it's a little plug that covers the outside key hole. I have seen a pic posted somewhere on here. The dealer said it will be in, in 2 days.

Since we don't open the car with a key the hole tends to get road grime in it. Especially here where it rains alot.

Speaking of the hood badge, the paint is chipping off the badge and the car is two week olds. Is that normal.

thanks

The pic I saw appeared to be Kind of a gray color. Not really sure. Yes Young it fits in like a rubber plug. Easily removed.

Shouldn't be Beth, I would take it back to the dealer and show them. I bought four today like I said for 11 bucks each.

Our ML320 came with the lock covers. Kind of like any other hole plug, they have a round head with a key logo, and the back side has a little tab that goes into the door lock.

Do you happen to have the part number of the cover? Or shall I just go to the parts department and ask for the "key slot cover"?

Thanks!!!

The parts manager told me that all the center caps are the same diameter throughout the lineup.

My aftermarket wheels have a smaller diameter hole.

I used the hood Laurel emblem from the coupe mounted to my old cap. I will post pics this afternoon if I can. It should look decent I tested one of them.

This makes me curious. The lock cylinder comes with protection to minimize water/grime entry, and yes, every time you push a key through it you introduce outside elements to the cylinder.

However, if the "tab" that holds the plug in place does not fit the key slot completely (and tightly), my concern would be that water/gunk, etc would be drawn under the cap and into the key slot through capillary action. Water in the cylinder, eventually down the inside of the door...rust?

Is the key hole cap made of rubber, or have a rubber seal on the back, or is it just a single piece of plastic, like a golf ball green marker? Not trying to throw rocks, here. Maybe a picture will clear this up.

I'd want to be convinced that the cap seals the key slot completely.

I can't find the pic to save my life. It was on one of the forums. I may have to post in the ML forum to see if anyone can get us a pic. Anyway it was only the price of a tasteless burger, so if it doesn't work I will throw it away.

benzo - make sure you take before and after pics of your car.. i think it would make your car look pretty clean since it's black... i honestly don't see a real use for them other than esthetics...

i mean we don't have to go to the trouble of holding an umbrella over the car everytime it rains ( i know most people here have garages ) a little rain and grime is not going to hurt the key mechanism... :p :p

Well my big 1.23 purchase came in today. It fits very tight and completely covers the chrome door lock cylinder. Goes very well with my unpainted black handles.

Anyway someone wanted to see a pic I will take one tomorrow.
