just a bit curious? 2001 c320 vs. a e36 M3?
ok well u guy know i come from bmw , but i am really loving my mercedes of course they are both excellent german brands , anyways i have a question and a story.
my last car my e34 i raced a e36 m3, and well i was getting beat, yeah pretty much Ill admit it i didn't win, but to be honest this person car was broke down like 2 weeks later and he didn't beat be by a lot, say what u want but yes his car was not in tip top shape, but he still won. oh and his car was smoking a lot towards the end of the race, anyways..
and now that my car is up and running I've been curious,
theres a classmate of mine at my school he drive a 99 (he says) or 97
e36 4-door M3 AUTOMATIC, stock except for maybe springs.
and me and him have been talking about giving it a go?
(not a dangerous 140MPH+ on a friday @ 6pm type of race, BTW)
anyways what do you guys think?
as of now my car is completely stock, but my engine is running like new..
should i ?
1. race him stock vs stock
2. wait till i get a ecu tune, and my springs (which i ordered) , and race him on dyno mode?
or do you guys think i would get creamed instantly?
btw me , him , and one more mercedes and on more bmw e46 , are pretty much the nicest cars at our school.
mines is the nicest tho![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
everyone else has pos hondas with 121 HP and a fart cannon muffle and think they are speedy gonzales and NFS combined -_-
oh and idk if some people will get upset or look down upon this thread , cause at bf.co there was some serious debby downers.
just curious btw, lets discuss this now

You're not racing for pink slips, are you? ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
If your ego can handle getting beaten, just try it now, stock vs. stock. See how you do, then race him again after mods. If it's in a straight line, I'm not sure what you think you'll gain with springs.
Having said that, the best thing to do would be to go to a track, under a controlled environment, to see who's better. It's not expensive.

Prices being so low now aside, I really thought the W203 would escape this type of fate - falling into the hands of boy racers - simply due to the complexity and cost of upkeep. It's a sad day.

But anyways . I'm not a "racer" I've raced twice in my e34. Classify me into the group of people that didnt go to disneyworld last week for spring break with my family but instead worked 6 days Out of the week..
Please and thank you.
Oh and btw at this point this is just general discussion. So let's keep discussing
So yeah a pull from any speed what do u think would be the outcome are m3,s really that fast? His car don't look fast.. Matter of fact this guy really doesn't know about cars at one point he told me his car was a v8 -_-

Whats wrong with racing? I think racing is fun.. If someone pulls up next to me on the freeway wanting to run I will.. Why not? You would be surprised of the outcomes.. Oh the C55 was so good at that..
Its a E36 m3. They have a good top end but lack the torque. Like I said your best bet is a dig or from like a 10 roll..

LILBENZ230 was talking about the price of the car itself. Notice he mentioned the cost and complexity of upkeep. Which is what your seeing with a $650 electric fan.
It's funny when the "boy racers" realize you can't do much to these cars without huge $$$.

I never said I wanted to do anything to my car besides a tune and a drop. U act like I'm trying to turbo it -_- this would just be a fun race, neither cars are super fast.
If I wanted a fast car and tought like a "racer" I would have taken out a car and had monthly payments. Luckily I am. Not a racer, and I also make better financial decisions. And as a person I know not to talk about a person which ii don't know about, .... I'm not a racer bro -_-

Mmmm, expensive repairs. ![Stick Out Tongue](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
The problem with modding this platform is that, if you're really serious, most things would tend to be a one-off mod, instead of something that's been at least tried or proven before. Very fun if it works, complete disaster if even a minor problem.
To OP - yes, a tune and drop will help. Though if you're interested in more for your 320, there are at least some options:
underdrive pulleys
thicker swaybars (best bang for the buck)
lightweight rims (18" are best, from a weight perspective)
exhaust to free up a couple of ponies, but not more, unfortunately
I believe that there are some headers, but pretty big bucks, and there's no really good intake setup worth the trouble.
And you really should have a reserve of $1,500 - 2,000 of "oh sh*t" money for repairs / maintenance. You will need it.

Hey guys thanks for ur positive comments. A drop and a tune is all the money I have right now due to the head gasket repairs and possibly needing a new fan. But I will look into the list that tommy supplied. Only time will tell .
It kinda got OT, I want some people that might have done the same scenario. Or something similar to put their input.
