How do I put this stupid clip back on... : /
M111 2002 C230
Hi, my title might have seemed like I'm frustrated. Well I am, but regardless, I'm not going to start breaking stuff or anything.
I was trying to look at the wiring harness and sensors for the oil wicking problem, and took off some black box that said Mercedes, with some filter in it, and the bottom part has some clip that I after 30 minutes of trying can't get back on.
Here is a pic of it, and the accordion tube thing from the front of the car is supposed to go through the metal slots, where I then can rotate it and lock it into place. The problem is, every time I try, the stupid silver piece comes out!!!!!!!! ....... Sigh..............
I just wanted to make sure no oil was going to get in the ECU or something, but honestly, I have no idea where the ECU is either. There should be a sticky showing the location of everything, you know, like a general overview faq. People's DIY's often don't say where anything is, they just have some close up view, as if that helps...
Anyway, I just want to get the clip back on. If it didn't take me 30 minutes and then giving up to put a clip back on, I'd be willing to work on my car a lot more. Why is it so difficult??? It should be easy.

Mercedes uses a lot of clamps that are hard without the proper tool. I feel your pain, wish I could help. All I can suggest is keep trying or get someone else to give it a shot. I had a similar issue on an intake clamp for the M271 that's far down the back of the engine on the firewall. We eventually just replaced the Mercedes clip clamp with a regular screw style hose clamp.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Am I looking at the air filter box? It looks like it's blocked.
I think you have the clip off by somewhere 90-180 degrees.
Seriously, your description is way lame.
The thingy and the I dunno whatitis?
A filter for something, I dunno?
You don't know the air filter from the ECU?
Really? Better have a mechanic look at it.
You should be able to look straight down at the sliding clip, not off to the side, it'll be right on top at like 10-11 oclock when it's unlocked at 1-2 oclock when it's locked, from the pespective of standing in front facing the engine. Left is to remove, right to lock.
Probably why it won't stay in.
ECU is back by the firewall near the fusebox.
Not under the air filter.
But now that you've got it off, inspect your belts.
And maybe check the 'some filter' too? (Hint: It's an air filter)
You gotta take the box apart with a torx driver.
Be sure to line the nubs up correctly on the bottom, when you put it back.
They just pop in.
If this is hard for you, as I suggested, better use a mechanic, not being mean or anything, but
pulling the air box is the most basic, easiest thing on the car,
requiring little more than a straight blade screw driver.
Everything else is for sure more complicated.

LOL omg yes ive been trying to lock it by turning it to the left. I'll go try it in a bit.
Ok goodness, thanks for letting me know where the ECU is. Now I just need to figure out where the 02 sensors are. I swear, every DIY is for the 271 haha.
Yes I know it was an airfilter and requires T 20 to get off I was just in a mood from the damn clip, lol.
Thanks again
@amanonfire yea I hear ya heh.
Edit: Wow, clip went on in 5 seconds. I'm such an ***** heh.

It is unfortunate no-one has done a good DIY for the leaky cam sensor issue in the M111, cause it has the exact same cam sensor with the same leaking problem. The problem is actually worse in the M111 as the ECU tends to take most of the oil.

The O2 sensors are easy, just follow the exhaust, find the sensor, then work backwards along the wire.

Nice thanks.
Wow I just went down to my car, and theres a new 18 inch crack on the windshield. Oh.. my.. goodness. O-o.. anyway.
Hey, do you know how to get to the ECU? I think thats prob the main thing I need to check.

I don't know what you're going to check as the ECU is sealed. I guess you could take it out of the car and leave it standing on the connector and see if any oil comes out.
