Door Speaker

It's time for some new door speakers. Already have the head unit, just got to finish it up. I've done some research and got these sizes. Front door speaker size are 6.5 with 1.5 depth. the rear is 5.25 with 1.5 depth. has anyone fit after market speakers in their car? 1.5 depth don't sound like much room. all the after market speakers are 2-2.5 depth. would the aftermarket ones fit?

6 1/2" all the way around. Doesn't sound like a very reputable shop.download the "metra electronics" app from the market place on your smart phone and it'll tell you everything you need to know.

I was told 5.25 is what the stock is but I can fit 6.5 with no issues. I had frys electronics install it and I have no problems with it and it sounds amazing. Alot more powerful then stock and way more clear.

So you guys suggest going bigger in the back and putting 6.5 in three rear instead if the 5.25? And can anyone confirm that the alpine type r speakers will fit the depth? Ibelieve they are 2.25 inches in depth?

Definitely go 6.5" as 5.25" bottoms out too easily, my stock HU pushes through alot of bass and doesn't distort but the rear speakers bottom out really easily, I kept the stock HU non bose system and I installed 2 OHM 6.5" Infinity Kappa speakers and it was about 3-4x better. Louder since the stock resistance is only 4OHM so with the 2OHM I got double the output, plus it no longer bottomed out. I will soon do it to the front then mount an alpine type R 8" sub to the rear deck.

Definitely go 6.5", I had in the rear Alpine Type R first then tried the Infinity Kappa and noticed way better audio experience cleaner bass response, better mids and highs. Its all on you but consider 6.5" it is an easy fit.

Goodluck

I just screwed straight into the sheet metal it needs no new adapters or anything fits the gap really well. Tons of space behind the infinity kappas are pretty deep and it still has loads of room.

My speakers were also bose but not with the bose amp and sub, yeah those are correct

k i'm going to put my order down for some 6.5. pulled the little tweeter triangle out and saw that the wires were what the website said so i'm going to go with that website. mines came with the amp and the bose sub. but the amp was pulled out when i got the head unit installed.

Fronts: Infinity Kappa 63.9i (3-Way)
Rear: Infinity Kappa 652.9i (2-Way)

They are both the same size. If you want a bit better sound isolation you could had a 1" spacer, less door vibration if any.

The JBL GTO speakers are on par with Infinity Kappa as they use the same patented massive rubber surrounds for great movement with less limitations.

From what I know the Infinity Kappa tweeters you can angle them to what works best for you in the rear you can just angle them up. In the front they work best being angled towards the upper portion of the seat. Goodluck

Quick Info:
Focal Speakers are amazing but only with an amp they need power to be driven to enjoy the sound. These infinity's give you pretty amazing sound quality and great bass response and since they run at 2-Ohm they work perfect with a lot of factory systems. If you get an amp, they will push out 2x as much as your regular 4-ohm speaker.

the jbl gto's look pretty good, easier to find than the infinitys over here in Finland...

JBL GTO6528S are 70e per pair...

how about the sub on the back shelf?

So I pulled off my old speakers off the front door and everything went smoothly. The only thing that is questionable is the wiring colors. the left is green, green brown just like how the webside said it should be. but on the passenger it was green and brown green again? same wires? is there something wrong here? I also pulled he driver side rear door and the wiring for those speakers were orange and orange brown. weird.

I was also wondering if the stock bose tweeters are 2 ohm or 4. and even if it is 2 would it be bad for me to hook it up with some aftermarket 4 ohm door speakers in the back? the 6.5 I have wouldn't fit in the back, i'm waiting for my speaker rings to come in so I can do the install. but wanted to wire up the old tweeters into the back too. good idea?

The sound shop that I went to told me that the sub is an 8 inch sub with 3.5 inches in depth. they suggested me running a free air sub, no box.

Also one more question. Are cross overs universal? Can I use different speakers and tweeters on different cross overs? Or it must be brand for brand.

Yeah the JBL is as good as the infinity, if you listen and look at both speakers they seem to be identical with identical resistance readings and no difference in audio and price point which is about the same here where I live (Canada). I'd say if it's easier for you to grab the JBL then go for it.

The 8" sub mine is a space for now, hasn't been installed by factory, but I plan on cutting the meshed portion out and bottom mounting a 8" Alpine Type R subwoofer, I do recommend if you do what I'm planning on doing that you dynamat the rear deck to prevent any rattling. That is how I did it in my old 06 Altima. The rear deck use to be 6x9, I cut a gap for two 10" I wanted the low profile so no one knew I had subs installed by looking at it and for practical purposes, I hate to have a sub box take up space in the trunk. I am just adding the 8" with a separate amp all mounted on the rear deck.

In my case I will be keeping my stock HU as the power output is pretty good, and clear.

The wire colors at the head unit are shown on the diagram. There are connectors between the headunit harness and the speakers in the door sill. The color code changes at that point.

You can mix and max manufacturers speakers and crossovers, but the specifications should be the same. When mixing manufacturers you need to be mindful of the phasing of the speakers. To test you can use a AA battery. Connect the + to the red or + on the speaker, the - to the other speaker terminal. Observe if the cone jumps in or out. All should be the same. If different change the polarity of the wires so all speakers move the same direction.
