LIMP mode due to alternator frailer???

Hi guys I am new here and I have a Mercedes W203 C270 CDI - 2002 which has some problems. The symptoms are that sometimes I am getting a message “under voltage consumer defective” and if I load up the power consumption on the car it is turning in red display showing “Battery/Alternator visit workshop”. The important part for me is that the car is going into LIMP mode sometimes (not going over 3000 RPM). Is it possible the alternator problem or old battery to put the car into LIMP mode as I read a million of treats already and I can not find anything?

Thank you very much in advance.

Check the battery. The cars we have are very battery sensative. A bad battery will throw all sorts of errors and code. That should be your first step before looking at the alternator. If it is the alternator, then it won't hurt to look at that as there is a point where you need to change that as well.
