Cigarette Lighter Keeps Popping Fuse 47

I searched the forum, but I did not find the answer that I was looking for. I was using the air pump that comes with the car that connects to the cigarette lighter and it stopped working. I figured the pump just gave out. Well, my radio stopped working, I have an after market head unit with the remote/acc wire tapped into the power wire of the cigarette lighter. So I checked fuse 47 and it was popped. I replaced the 15 amp fuse and turned on the car and nothing. Checked the fuse and it popped again. I did this three times and all with the same results.

So I'm thinking that I have a short, but I'm not too sure. I plan on taking it apart and looking at it, but I don't know what I should be looking for. I'm assuming that I must have the power wire grounding some where. Does the whole cigarette lighter go bad and cause a short? I'm hoping a connection came undone, but I doubt that would cause a fuse to pop. What do you think might be the problem.

Those cig lighters suck. Sh_t falls in them, shorts them, and eventually they just quit working. A replacement costs close to $100 possibly more.
I moved mine to the tray under the radio, with a 3 outlet + USB power, and I don't have to have that damn door open all the time, and my pump works fine. Cost about $15.
Used it recently. Have a slow leak in one tire.

So its the actual cigarette lighter causing the short. That sucks, can't believe they're so expensive. I might try your idea. So do I just remove the cigarette lighter and my fuse will stop popping?

Looking at ALLDATAdiy.com I see that Fuse 47 is also for your Glove Compartment light as well. May want to check the wiring or bulb in there too.

So, I finally was able to disconnect the cigar lighter and the fuse still popped. I dissconnected the tap into the cigar lighter and the fuse didn't blow. I reconnected the cigar lighter and the fuse blew again. So I can't even put a load on the wire with out it blowing. The wire looks to be intact and I don't see any breaks, still need to dig a bit further. Any ideas?

The light works when I open the glove compartment, so not sure what else to check.

A pic I found on how to disconnect the plug. I was trying to pull it out, but you had to push it out from the side,

I figured it out, for what ever reason I tapped the wire in two different spots right next to each other and I guess one of them weakend the wire and was causing the short. I cut the section, spliced in another piece of wire, reattached the tap, and the radio works again. I tried reconnecting the cigar lighter and it caused the fuse to pop again. I guess I need a new cigar lighter.

I tried removing the cigar lighter, but I couldn't figure it out. I found some instructions and I had everything just about out, but I couldn't remove the piece the cigar lighter attached to. Do you have to remove the whole arm rest/center console piece?
