First 1000 miles myth or fact
What kind of proof is there that taking it easy on the car for the first 1000 miles will improve the longevity of the car?<BR> Is this some old leftover myth from the past?

I don't know that there IS any real proof, but if MB says take it easy the first g, I'm taking it easy the first g- but it ain't easy. Its like hitting a choke down 3/4 driver just to keep it in the fairway- its not fun, but its usually the smart play- at least on the first few holes. I'm at about 550 and itchin' to let the shaft out.

I ask myself that question all the time
But I figure its not worth testing it out and ruining a very nice expensive vehicle. Its wasnt that bad to wait for the first 1000 miles before I really stomped on it. I did it and the time went by fairly quickly. I have about 3900 now and as the miles pile on the car gets quicker and I stomp it just a little more. Ive heard from many people that you should wait the 1K and it makes perfect sense so I waited. And dump the oil at 1K as well. Could be part of the same myth, but too cheap to be concerned about it.

i knew that u had to take it easy with the car with the first 1000 miles but when i drove i just happen to come accross people that wanted to race so i couldn't resist i started to floor my car at 200 miles (and i did it alot) and i still did it all the way up to what i have now which is 1,500 miles i dont know if it really does any harm it might but i never came accross 1 problom. hopefully it stays that way.
