Front Outer Cv boot

I ordered the front outer CV boot for my 04 C240 4matic today. Old one was torn and throwing grease al over. Does anyone have a good walkthrough with pictures to DIY. Dealer wanted 550 bucks to replace and the part was only 40 bucks. Figured this was a more economical route than paying a fortune.

Thanks

make sure the joint itself is not worn or dammaged as if it is replaceing just the boot will just delay failure

I did both front axels on my 4matic i had a indy shop that just does axels/cv joints

they told me the hub bolts were VERY VERY tight and hard to get off search my name i did post the cost

if your in a major city there should be an axel shop

Ordered the CV boot online for 40 bucks. Also while I was at it changed the outer tie rod end. Noticed it was very unstable once I got the car jacked up. It was a relatively easy job. Since I only had to change the outer boot I did not have to pull the entire axle, which was pretty nice. Tie rod ends=very easy to replace. For those two jobs, Stealership wanted almost 1000 bucks to replace.

Heres what I paid:

$65.00 for outer tie rod end
$40.00 for Outer CV boot kit
and the kicker
$15.00 for beer. (One beer for every bolt I took off )

Total savings $880.00

If anyone has to replace eother of these and needs some instructions let me know.

So...how did you replace the outer boot? I mean, how did you take the CV apart on the car? I got the whole CV detached but can't get it out of the transfer case (it will not come out no matter how much pulling I do). Since all I need to replace is the outer how do I pull that appart so I can slip the boot on?

dont pull the joint

you need to get a pry bar and place it between the transaxel and the cvjoint body

the axel shaft is held in by a circlip
