where did this bolt come from?????

so today my daughter found this bolt on my driveway

2003 c240 4matic wagon and everything still works......... no rattles......


so whats this bolt from?? its for sure an MB bolt

hmmmm. Its a stud.....weird that is a inverted torx head. Maybe specific to the 4-matic c class. I would also guess exhaust manifold bolt.
Second thought, that wouldnt make sense because there would be a 10mm nut on the end, and the end is rusted.....indicating nothing was on the end. It must have been sitting around in your undercarrage, or subframe for a while. Any previous exhaust work?

well i did have the cats replaced under warrenty 2 years ago

its so tight in there I cant see if an stud is missing from the manifold ill try a mirror tomorrow

i think it IS an exhaust manifold stud 272 990 00 05 maybe???

well its NOT from the headers all 12 studs from headers are there and are not inverted torx head (and very rusty too)

ya thats what i thought too

but Mb put it somewhere on my car for a reason probably a good one so id like to find out where and replace it!!!

May have been dropped by a mechanic when doing a previous job on a hard to retrieve position then fallen out when eg you washed the car .

In the absence of new advice ,have a look around where previous work has been done.
