One of the covers under the car and behind the transmission is supported with 2 small brackets. I found one of them to be loose (flapping around) while fixing another problem. Upon inspection I discovered that the rectangular press-nut in the chassis was missing.

Would anyone have a spec /source on these press nuts, or am I stuck with the dealer on this one? Not sure of the bolt spec, but was using an 8mm socket on it.

Yes, indeed they do !!! It's listed as 'clip nut for engine compartment lower shield' for a whopping 72 cents. Nothing like finding the real thing.

I'm speechless - thank you so much. I'm a newbie to Mercedes, but what a great resource here. This forum has already solved some routine problems for me right off the bat(windshield washer & cd player). Nice to know I started at the right place!
