Help please-battery

Folks,
Can't I just remove the old and install the new without this hook-up to a trickle charger? What trou ble am I creating by removing the old one to install the new one? I've read the post where folks mention the error messages . 2005 C230 1.8
Thanks

Hooking it up would be worth the hassle instead of having to worry about the codes later on

Just remove the battery in the proper order. Remove neg first then pos. To reinstall do the opposite, pos first then neg. Once done you need to resync your windows and sunroof. Just roll them down, then roll them up but continue holding the switches in the up position for a few seconds. Same process for the sunroof. If you get the esp message just turn your car on and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock a couple of times and it'll clear after awhile.

If you disconnect the battery in the wrong order you can damage the rear SAM. Instructions for all this is in the owners manual.

SEARCH please - battery

Dude really,... our generation of cars has been out for like 10 years and there's 10 years worth of post on this forum,... are you telling us you can't find it?

There a entire sticky on it at the top of the forum
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...g-battery.html

You should also have an owners manual in your glove compartment detailing how to change you car battery.

If you still can't manage,... and need someone to hold your hand every step of the way,.. then just take it into a Mercedes-Benz stealership or any indy shop.

Fredkrhye,

Over the years when I needed assistance or usually giving assistance,..... I've come across a lot of jacka-ses on these forums. If you don't believe me,....SEARCH,.... you could use the practice. ;p

Its unbelievable some so called adults need to be hand feed every step of the way,..... And their sense of entitlement. Just use the search button,....it's not difficult,... Or does mommy and daddy have to do your homework for you.

Whoa there... this thread is way going to the dogs. I advocate searching as well but this answer is simple. You do not have to have a trickle charger for the 2005+ W203. You should definitely follow the manual, leave the key out, unhook positive last, etc.. but the fragile SAMs of the pre-facelift were addressed in the facelift.

When I called MB roadside assistance to come change my battery, I watched the guy replace it without hooking up to a trickle charger. This was done in a hotel parking lot while I was out of town. After replacing the battery he re-synced the windows and whatever else and that was it.

I would call roadside. For most folks the labor is free and you get the battery that fits and has enough capacity at a competitive price. Don't go to the dealer. They will charge labor and mark-up the battery above retail.

It is almost impossible to find an aftermarket battery with the same specs as the OEM. Never drive farther than you can walk back with an under-powered battery.

A quiescent current device is needed to prevent battery backed settings from being lost.

actually MB did away with the roadside assistance if you dont have factory warranty now. It use to be for the life of the car but they did away with that now. They sent out a letter about it last year I believe.

As I said just do what the manual says, and make sure it has the correct specs needed, think you need around 900 CCA. I got an interstate battery since they didnt have the optima battery I wanted in stock, was only 120 for the battery.

Yep I had no trouble finding a battery that exactly matched the specs at Autozone. They even installed it, and no trickle charger stuff either. It's just not necessary. My car did not even lose the radio presets or need a window re-sync.

The Federal, Autozone (Duralast), and Interstate battries make it hard to find the pertenent specification. CCA and reserve minutes are meaningless hype specifications. Mercedes specifies 100 Ah and only the Aussie Federal comes close at 95 Ah.

It is false economy to use undersized batteries in your car. Lots of places say the unit they are flogging fits, but it only means it comes in the group 49 case. The difference between the Mercedes OEM unit and Intersate is the 100 Ah battery can roll up the window with one touch, while the other will sag and not finish the job.

I believe that roadside free service continues if you have you car serviced at a Benz dealer.

My Autozone battery is 100Ah and they had it in stock. After consulting with Glyn, I knew only to buy a 100Ah battery and that's what I did. It was $150 so it was just as much as it would have been at a dealer, but it was installed free. The dealer wanted another $100 to install it.

Roadside is "free" in that they don't charge you as long as you do service at the dealer. However, with the dealer's ridiculous pricing I can hardly call it "free" in the true sense. It makes more financial sense to service at a trustworthy indy and use only proper MB-spec materials and purchase a AAA membership for other instances. That's what I do and it has worked for my 142k mile C230.

Uugh, forgot about them doing away with roadside assistance. Truly was a good deal considering the quality of battery you get and the free install.
