Key Problem

Hello everybody.

After spending almost $600 on spark plugs, wires, transmission fluid change, Coolant, etc. basically maintence. I have a new problem

When i try to use the electronic key, it will not unlock or lock the car. even the light on the key wont light up, The wierd thing is the key is making the car alarm go off. Bought new batteries and tried, same thing.

So after letting the alarm turn off after open the door with the mechanical key, i try to start the car but the key wont turn in the ignition. (left me stranded at publix for almost an hour, until it finally turned and started.

What is causing this.

P.S. Only have one key

(i couldnt find another thread, relating to my problem)

I had the battery check by advanced auto about a week ago, they said it was still a good battery, and alternator was good,

They were actually surprised considering it is almost at 12 year old battery.

but maybe i should replace it anyways.

Ooooh, a 2001 C class. You should be glad it hasn't blown up yet.

It sounds like the EIS to me; do a search. Could be pretty big bucks if it needs to be replaced, around $2k at the dealer, and $1200 or so at an indy.

start with the battery but as tommy said, it sounds like the EIS might be the issue.

Where are you located?

Does the car not recognize the key? If so try applying a bit of pressure when you insert the key

Thanks guys!
Sorry for taking for so long to reply.

I got the old key to work inter mentally, usually acts up when it is wet outside. Ordered a new from dealership. $242 later.

But new problem.

Poor radio reception
No alarm siren when opening locked door. And no locking or unlocking sound when lock door. I have Netherlands setting engaged
No keyless entry, unless right by drivers door pionting IR sensor.

I've searched other threads, and its looks like these problems piont to fuse number 8

Just thought i'd update everyone.

And again thank you all for your help
