'03 dipstick revisited
I am increasingly less comfortable with the oil level ok message. I've searched the forum and came up with this part number:
120 589 062 100
for the dipstick service part.
Now then, someone in the know mbtech? please let me know if this is in fact the right stick for my 2003 W203 230k sport sedan?
Also what is the proper measurement range for this engine on that stick.
I read 150-168 and 155-160 ideal, but is that also for the new 1.8L K engine?
I want to put this to rest and could use some help. Who knows, I may get crafty and make up some sticks and sell them!

Is the location of the dipstick tube on the 1.8 the same as it was on your 2.3? I'm using a 2.3 dipstick on my V6 and it is about 1/2" too long -> full mark on I4 = add mark on V6.

Pete, that is interesting that you get those messages. I have yet to get one, knock on wood, and I do not exactly drive my car nicely. I did not do anything special for break-in, I drove the same way I drive now. This seems like the first 1.8L complaint as well. Although I would like a dipstick as I like doing it the old fashion way and I rarely remember to check the oil until after I have started the car. But I have yet to see any warnings or messages about the oil yet. I hope this dipstick works and you can see if you actually are using oil or if the computer or sensors are wrong. I tend to not trust sensore all that well, especially on the engine. I would much rather do it the old fashioned way but apparantly MB thinks its customers do not want to check it that way or are too good to get under the hood.

The dipstick # peet posted is, I believe, the actual service tool used by MB techs. It is ~ $140 and is way too long to be left in the car as it won't permit closing of the hood.

I know mine is a different engine, but the first 3000 miles the MDF showed 1 quart low at least twice and I went to the dealer to have them add some oil.
Kinda interesting - for my dealer they prefer to just do a full oil change when you bring it in because it apparently just takes minutes and you know for sure exactly how much oil is put in - they say adding a quart, checking on the dipstick, adding more, checking again is actually more time-consuming.
So I guess I got a free "A" Service already at 3000 miles.
After the first 3000, I have not had any problems with oil being low. (Maybe they disconnected the sensor wire because they were sick of my complaining? Ha)
