Almost here!!!

For those who you who recently took delivery of your coupé...you'll know what I'm talking about. It was a rainy day in October when I placed my order for my car. It's been so long in fact, that the salesperson who helped me doesn't even work at the dealer anymore!

I went to the dealer Saturday and saw my new car which had JUST come off the truck--still covered in plastic. It is: Black/oyster leather, 6-speed, C5, K2 and COMAND. I sold my '95 Integra more than a month ago, and have been driving a Geo Metro rental since. Do you think the new M-B will be nicer, in comparison??? :p I could pick it up as early as Wednesday, but I'm waiting until Saturday morning (the dealer is a little out of the way from me.) For anyone who has gotten a coupé recently (or dealt with RAB Motors in San Rafael) is there any little gifty thing I should be seeking?

It's almost here!

I was brave like you and waited for the weekend. It wasn't easy...

My dealer showered me with stuff like original MB leather key ring, o. MB baseball cap, o. MB stainless-steel coffee mug, 1:18 model in exactly the color the big one came in (orion-blue, of course ), and a leather-bound road atlas (which is still on order). Unfortunately, that's on the Eastern Seaboard.

I can relate to your rental. I've been driving a family borrowed 1985 Honda Accord (in excellent mint condition with 70K miles) since I sold my Miata at the end of December. My best time to far in the Accord is 0-60 in 14 seconds. Though with three passengers it does 0-60 in 35 seconds. :p Can't wait till Friday for my C230!

I feel like that old 7up TV ad, where the thisty cowboy comes in from the hot desert and eats dry chips (to increase his thirst) before taking a gulp of a cold 7up.

Thanks guys for your messages of support. If you ever want to remind yourself about just how nice an M-B really is, rent a Geo Metro. 3 CYLINDERS OF PURE POWER!!!!! The fact that it has no power steering is only mitigated by the fact that it weighs about 500 lbs. I've had it on a monthly rental and it's actually costing slightly MORE than my payments on the 230 will be! My partner says that my driving the "tuna can" (as we affectionately refer to it) makes him incredibly nervous.

At home I've got the silver keychain, license plate frames, the scale model and the owner's manual of which I've already "taken delivery." The car seems almost superfluous now.....o.k., now wait....nevermind.

I guess the only negative is that I won't be able to fill-up the 230 for $10 like I can with the Geo. Darnit.
