It's a good manual, no question about it, at least in our car.

I'm just sick of hearing the whining about the MB Manual transmission. Frankly, its a pretty good box. Sure, its not as slick shifting as some of the BMW boxes, but that doesn't make it crap. Personally, I like the feel of it better than my last buddies Integra, which has a rubbery feel at the end of each throw. You want a bad manual, drive the Sentra SE-R, or any GM front driver. Over the years Ive driven cars that needed two feet on the clutch and ones that had throws that more like golf swings than gear changes. The MB manual is pretty decent in feel and use. Its the gearing that pisses me off. First and second are too damn short!

In the market
I got the six speed...or should say am getting the six speed. Of course they did not have one on the lot so I had to wait a bit, but am picking it up this evening. My BMW was automatic and all I did everytime I drove it was wish it was stick. Soooo much more fun!

Go to www.mbusa.com and check the gas mileage for automatic and manual transmissions.

Got my car with auto so my wife could drive it. During the 1.4 years since I got it, she has only used it 2-3 times. Next car, I'm going back to manual!

190 2.3 and C320
I got the automatic; it's smooth as silk and I can shift manually using autostick, or whatever M-B calls its manual mode. I'm 58, going on 59 and prefer the convenience of automatic. My wife can drive it too!

Didn't any of you guys just consider teaching your wives to drive stick?
My wife drives stick...she misses her Probe GT, and always comes up with 'excuses' to drive my car

I tried once to teach a girlfriend to drive stick. After bucking my car a few times my transmission was history; It kept slipping out of gear and making horrible noises. I took it to the dealer to see if I could drive it home from school for the mos. long winter break and was told I could but a new transmission was needed. As I released the clutch in 1st gear to exit the dealership --- PoP!! --and the transmission was clearly shot because no gear worked. I get out and transmission fluid is all over the place and parts are literally rolling down the pavement from the hole in the base of the tranmission case. 1 mos and $1200 later I returned to school and picked up the car. I never attempted to teach anyone else to drive stick.
