failed smog need help

hey so I have a 2006 c230 sport, it just failed smog and im wondering if someone could give me insight to why it did so?

everything passed except "air injection" failed. Im not quite sure what that means or how to go about fixing it (hopefully its cheap)

comprehensive visual pass - functional check failed - emissions test passed

if anyone has any ideas thatd be great.

thanks

The secondary air injection system pumps filtered ambient air into the exhaust for emissions purposes. If the SAI pump was not working you should have a CEL. Do you have a CEL on? If so you may need to replace the pump..

Yes I do have a CEL, not sure what it is for but I can pull the code later tonight and get back to you. Is the pump an easy fix? Or does a mechanic have to do it? Also price wise, is it a lot?

Thanks!

The pump is $444 on rmeuropean. It's pretty easy to replace. However, you should check all the vacuum lines before changing the pump. When I replaced my cam magnet, I accidentally disconnected the vucuum line that goes into the solenoid and I got Air Injection Code right away. So, I believe it might be the case for your car too.

Here you go...I just went out to take pictures from my car. Just check every hose and vacuum line that you see in the picture. Look for leaks or disconnected lines.

Just pulled the code

P0073

Ambient air temp sensor

So does that mean my MAF could be dirty or my air filters are really dirty?

That's totally different code than what I got.

Ambient Air Temp Sensor is located on the front bumper next to the fog light.

Check your multifuction screen if the outside temp is not accurate, you might have a bad sensor...see the picture.

From looking at your picture, you don't even have the wiring for temp sensor. Have you been in a front collision before?

white and whiter
Outside temp sensor has nothing to do with emission.

Secondary air injection sounds familiar. If it is what i think it is, you need to replace the purge valve next to the esp module in the engine bay. You will have a pending error code of P0455.

Is there any pending codes when you pull the codes?

Not that I can see only thing that comes up on the OBDII is

P0073

Ambient air temp sensor

I can double check but I don't believe there's any pending codes. Any idea where the purge valve is located?
