Just a thought...

Hey, I read that GM can go in and alter their car's computer for different sized aftermarket wheel/tire combos so that the speedometer isn't messed up (such as if the outer circumference of the tire is increased). Can MB do the same?

There should be multiple tire sizes in the computer. Tire sizes for every combination you can get from the factory or with wheels ordered from the manufacturer. I know Chrysler has this and Ford as well. I assume that MB's would since there are diferent wheels and tire combos for each car and those have to be in the computer so the dealer can select them. But this is a Benz so who really knows.

The 16 and 17 inch tires nearly the same diameter (24.8" vs 24.9"); therefore they have the same speedometer settings.

224/40-18's are 25.0 inches and should be fine.

I asked this in several places that should know and the "expert" answer was "NO".

Now Comand is a different deal, that is for your GPS&nav related accuracy.

Yeah, if you go to lower and lower profiles. But if you have a 225/55/16, and you want to go to a 225/55/17, the tire itself is 1" taller, and probably several inches more in circumference. Personally, I HATE the look of giant rims and super low profile rubber. RICE!
But, give me some bigger wheels with rubber that is in the proper proportions and we can talk

Don't you use "Pi" to determine circumference for a given diameter? I've been out of school too long
The way I figure it, a 17" tire is 3" bigger in circumference than a 16" tire, given they both have the same aspect (height vs. width).

There is a nice tire size calculator online:

Bookmark it, absolutely worthwhile!
