Weird problems after CDC fix attempt

Hi,

My CD changer in my 2002 c230 wasn't reading the cds and gave me the "Empty Magazine" error. So I decided to try the fix outlined here https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...azine-fix.html.

Sure enough that fixed the problem and it was time to put everything back together. However, the ribbon cable broke and the head unit lost all power. So I thought I would try and fix the ribbon cable and I think I somehow pushed it in sideways and the car gave me the srs warning, one brake light is out and the head unit does not have power at all. I checked all the fuses and they were all ok.

Is there a fuse behind the head unit for my year and model? Also, did any of you run into similar problems?

Just an update on the situation. I managed to remove the center console and took out the radio. The 10A fuse behind the radio was blown and replacing it fixed the radio.

Now the keyless entry works from far. The only problem I have is the SRS warning is still on.

After three weeks of no cd changer and no audio in the car, I finally got a used cd changer from ebay and it arrived yesterday. I plugged it in without removing the battery or doing anything special. The audio came back but the cd changer does not work. It would say "No Magazine" the first time I click the CD button on the head unit and then "No Cd Changer" when I click the CD button for the second time. I tried a few times without any luck. Then I disconnected the battery for about a minute and reconnected it but still no luck.

I have read somewhere that I may need to remove the radio, install the cd changer and then re-install the radio but haven't tried it yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

make sure youre disconnecting the battery correctly or you car will be in a world of electrical issues. as for the changer i've disconnected and reinstalled it many times without any issues when I use to have it. also make sure its the correct changer for your car.

Thanks for your reply,

I'm sure it is the correct part for my car, it is the MC3010 and it matches the one I took out from my car in the first place.

When it comes to disconnecting the battery, I disconnected the ground for about a minute or so and then reconnected it. Didn't get any electrical problems. Is there a specific way I should disconnect the battery?

with our cars you have to do neg first then positive and then to reinstall you do positive then neg. doing it incorrectly you can ruin electrical components.
