Code P0410 -SAI- M111 Engine

Hi Guys

So yesterday on start up i get the engine light coming on with the code P0410.

I know this code has something to do with the SAI pump.

I did find some threads with regards to this problem, however, i drive a 2001 C180 (non-kompressor). It has the M111 engine. Some of the posts say that the M111 does not have a SAI pump?

Can somebody advise me on the location of this pump (if it is there) and the relays etc?

Did you ever figure this out?
I've had this for going on 2 years (~40,000kms) now. Hasn't effected anything other than just being annoying.

There are several treads about this online, and I have seen different solutions.
-frosen pump due to condence (moist air) and Winter
-bad ground on relay
-leaks

I had this problem, and the car was not putting out all hp when i floored the throttle. I deleted the code With OBD II, and It was good for a while but came back. Another way was to remove the battery, and turn on the light switch just to make sure that all electrisitiy was out of the system. Then replace battery, the fault ligt/engine light was still on, but the engine was putting out all of the hp, in other Words not in "safe mode".

After I chipped the engine, the check engine light and fault code has not retured. In my case i suspect that alot off short distance driving was the cause og the fault.

I have read thread after thread, and various instructions/pdfs on this, however they all appear to relate to the c180K or other kompressor variants. The N/A model has a different engine and different components.

Notably:
There is no relay in the fuse compartment for a secondary air pump like there is for other variants.
The is also no flap in the intake system to be manually adjusted - there is nothing in the pipework between the air filter and the throttle body, other than the MAF (i have cleaned this thoroughly).

My issues came around directly after i changed my spark plugs at 140k kms. I drove the car for approx 130kms and then the CEL came on. No symptoms of anything wrong, just the P0410 code. I cleared it, but it just comes back within 100kms each time.

I changed the plugs again at 185k kms. Each time i've changed plugs i've used NGK iridiums (IFR6D10). I really dont know if its something to do with the spark plugs, or whether it just came on the first time purely by coincidence...

When first starting the car, the revs pulsate for probably 30 seconds or so and then flattens out and idles normally.

When the car is cold and idling, i can hear a high pitched whine that sounds like a motor starting, it runs for a couple of seconds and then stops. The cycle repeats every 10 seconds or so.

The car is now for sale, but i'd rather have the issue fixed for the new buyer, rather than have to explain the CEL.

Fixed it!!

Ok so after all this time I found the fault.

Behind the throttle body there is a valve with 2 clear vacuum hoses going into it. Remove then both one by one and try both blowing and sucking air through them. If one of them let's air blow through it in both directions, it's broken.

I traced one of mine and found the clear tube broken at a join near the suppressor housing. This tube continues on to an EGR valve in the exhaust which opens when the car is cold. As far as I can tell, this vacuum hose being broken prevented that valve opening and not letting extra air into the exhaust when cold.

Since fixed this hose and clearing the CEL, it has remained off.

HI ba114, I am also driving W203 C180 (non-kompressor) and I have the exact problem like as you mentioned.

Did you just replace the broken clear tube and the problem code P0410 is cleared? Did you change the EGR valve as well? (OEM no: 0025401497).

Really appreciate you feedback as I have struggling to identify the root cause.
