C230K: GEICO Hikes Rates 15%
The C sedans' insurance classes hadn't changed.
While on the phone I happened to remark "Gee-whiz, what is the deal, it is a Mercedes after all, not some Hyundai." The CS rep commented that as a matter of fact the only other car she had seen jump as many insurance classes was the Hyundai Tiburon.
Is anyone else having insurance rate problems with their C230K.
(Of course, Progressive wanted THREE times what I'm paying.
)
The best tip I have received from a friend in the Insurance business is to shop around. Staying with one is not always the best.
I've had a C230K coupe for about 18 months. Last Spring GEICO upped my rates 15%. They said it was because since the car was a new model it was rated in a certain insurance class when they initially quoted & insured it. After the car was on the market for awhile, they re-evaluated it, resulting in a jump up a few insurance classes.
Time to get competitive quotes. I use AAA and my c-coupe has an average premium compared to my 3 other cars. What's nice about AAA is that they are a non for profit company so they return all their profits back to their long standing customers (I think over 3 years), a few hundred dollars for us.

What is so strange with Ins Co. nowadays is that a lot of them are starting to base their rates on your credit score instead of your driving history. Some states are actually looking into this and the justifications provided by these companies in order to evaluate the fairness of this practise. Last but not least; a lot of them lost money over the last few years in stocks, etc. and now are trying to recoup.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
geico being the gov't employees ins. co. gave me a big discount
for being a gov't. employee. different co.'s look at people differently, and i doubt one co. will have the best rate for all.
So at the end of that policy's term, I canned them and went to NJ Manufacturers, who beat LM's best quote by $600, saying the Mercedes Coupe is not only safer, but has better air bag and traction control than any other car in it's class.
I still pay a little over $2400 for 4 cars, with a perfect driving record...
Thank your lucky stars you don't live in NJ...our politicians are all either lawyers or insurance agents...and the mandatory insurance laws reflect that (NJ has the #1 highest insurance rates in the nation).

My insurance went to $4200 from $2400 (CND) after an accident and an aparent 30% hike across Ontario. Funny thing is I turn 25 in 5 months, at which time my insurance goes to $2700 - moe than a 30% decrease!

Save about 200 a year for 1K vs. 500.
In my whole life I've never collected on something that was my fault, so it's a bet I feel OK taking.
