bummed - 255's on rear rub...

Just a heads up. I went from some Dunlop DZ101 255/40-17's to some Kumho 4X 255/40-17's on the rear. The 4X's are rubbing. I'm bummed. After I found the rubbing I checked out the spec's on tirerack and found the 4x's are 0.7" wider than the Dunlops(!). Should have checked this beforehand, but just assumed all would be good since they are both 255's. I'm going to go back down to 245's on the rear and that should take care of it, but thought I'd post this for posterity and anyone messing with tires. The guy at tirerack told me all season tire's are generally wider than the performance summer tires - performance tires have a more 'square' profile. I'm running staggered AMG wheels with standard offsets (17x7.5 et 36 front and 17x8.5 et 30 rear).

In case anyone's wondering, I really like the DZ101's but recently found the very inner ~1" of the front tire tread was completely worn and it wasn't worn evenly like it should be if the camber was off (camber is in spec too). I had the toe adjusted, put the stock sway bars back on, and put on some used all season tires I happened to have in my shed on the front to check how things will wear (didn't want to put new tires on and have them wear funny). My rear 101's were worn out, so went to the 4X's to have all season's on all 4 corner's.

I too had slight rubbing on the rears when I put on some Sumitomo 255/40's. It was minor on the inner fender liner and was only temporary.

Did you say your are getting "inner" front tire wear? Is your car lowered? Typically the fronts wear on the outer edge. If you are getting inner wear then I'd check the camber (too much negative will do that...like lower the car). I'd also check that they are not toed out. Ideally, you want a slight bit of toe in on the fronts.
