Well the Coupe is gone.
Well guys, its gone. The Rover dealer gave me more money for the car that he first said so I took the offer and ran with it. He came back and offered $15K for the coupe, and I took it.
I came out with a new 2003 Landrover freelander HSE, silver, fully loaded, navi system, everything. I will pick it up tomorrow, they have to add the brushguard, skid plates, and nerf bars. I really liek the car, I got a great deal on it from the dealer. I got it for $27,500 with 0.0APR for 60mos. I will post pictures tomorrow night.
Dad also bought a new one atthe dealer too. He bought a new old stock 2002 Discovery II SD. Its a pewter color and its awesome too.
I will still be around to post though

Timmy,
Congrats on the FL, but as another poster had indicated, be prepared to spend....
My first dip into the LR was a brand new loaded RR in 96, factory bought it back in 10 months & put me in an 97, they bought that one back as well. (electrical, electrical, & electrical, well oil leaks too & they wanted to lift the engine when it had 2000 miles).
I figured 5 years and it might be safe to get back into it when it's time to replace the company car, so in 1/2002 I p/u a FL S. This thing is just so fun to drive & it's also very stable, however, I kept getting traction control & DHD warning lights all the time (amber), and after 27k miles, the dealer still could not fix it. I am glad that this is not my personal vehicle & don;t have to deal with it after year's end!
The biggest problems I have are with the AC & brakes, the AC gotta be the biggest POS I have seen in a long time, comparing to the new 230 coupe I just p/u for my daughter, it's literally heaven & hell, especially now that we have 105+ in the L.A. area. The brakes last about 12k miles and I'm not a heavy braker, and according to the service writer, 12k is the norm & well within specs, what they don't tell you is that you'll need rotors the second time, just had that done @ 24k not long ago. To give you a reference point, I have only done the brakes on our 99 Landcrusier once in 55k miles.
May the force be with you, LR service costs way too much.

Thanks guys.
I really do like the car. I'm not worried about the reliability of it. The LR dealer offeres loaners, cant say that for my benz dealer anymore. The AC in the freelander was great yesterday. I sat in traffic, on a test drive, for 15 minutes with AC on full blast and it didnt hiccup once.

TP,
That's great to hear and hope you have a good experience w/ the FL. Like I said before, it's really a fun vehicle that can hold its own even off-road, the approach angle is great in front, however, the rear is where you need to watch out for because how the muffler is hung. In the end, the ONLY thing I will miss on a LR is the heated defrost on the windshield.
As for the AC, it's putting a large volume of air out of the 2 center vents (loud), just not cold enough. Dealer checked it numerous times, and even showed me 2 other vehicles, same thing, weak AC.
One thing I failed to mention is that even in L.A., I need to book an appointment almost 1 week in advance, doesn't matter which dealer, and I have access to at least 3 within 15 miles. The last time mine was in for some minor repair - attempt to reset TC & DHD warning lights, jammed RR door lock, and a stuck gas cap, ended up to be a 3.5 days stay. Since I have the LandCruiser to use for off-road, I ended up getting myself an Infiniti FX45, and can't be happier in terms of dealer experience & reliability (The FX is like a Glock as the FL is like a 1911)
Enjoy it!
p.s. now it's time to rip the stock stereo system out in the coupe, can't believe it sounds so bad even when compared to the stock system on the FL 'S'.

Yeah the stock BOSE system I had in the coupe was crappy when compared to the Harmon-Kardon 240watt system in the LR. There is a fix for the rear muffler problem in the freelander. Get a new muffler . I have already talked to the local offroad shop and they say put a different muffler on it that is alot smaller and doesnt hang down, and sounds the same. Its $75 installed.
Hopefully this will be a great car for a few yrs.

By the way sclui56, have you noticed that the entire dash shakes when you shut the glovebox. Both FX's we drove were the same way . I typically "slam" gloveboxes shut, but I noticed most other people do as well, so I don't think I'm doing anything out of the ordinary.

FX Dash
Hi Jim,
Just checked mine & couldn't notice any movement of the dash when closing the glove box, BTW, the glove box doesn't have enuf mass to really cause any vibration. This puppy is pretty solid & I have yet to notice any vibration even though it's riding on 20", the ONLY item that vibrates is my rearview mirror but that's because of the sub.

Nice to see some people buy a FX45!!! That is one amazing car!!! I love the power and the exhaust note!!! We traded our ML500 in for a FX45 a month ago. The ML500 was too unreliable so we decided to move on.
Best sound system!!!!!

Yes, the sound system is great. BTW, did you experience warpping in the rear spoiler? Mine has survived 110 degrees for days w/o problem, but have seen some nasty ones a few times @ the dealer.
