Need to replace air intake c230k?

Hi All -
I noticed that the air intake for the supercharger on my C230 Kompressor is split right behind the front grill of the car. The rubber tube is just somewhat unraveled right there. Will it hurt it if the supercharger is also sucking in some air from inside the hood? I'm going to have the dealer look at it during the next service, just wondered if it needed to be repaired soon.

Thanks!
Tim

it will be ok. its just an air hose till it gets to the air filter. you can just buy a replacement part from rmeuropean or mymercedesparts or even look in the classifieds. Many guys with the kompressor replace the hose with a silicone or rubber hose to have a more smooth flowing air flow to the filter.

by the rad support theirs 1 clip on top and 1 clip on bottom.. use a flat head screw driver to press down on the tab then u can just take out the bottom by sliding it foward or back

make sure u put the bottom clip on first or it will be a ***** to do

I'm bumping because my cloth hose is torn and i'm wondering if it could be the cause of my CEL and/or sorta rough idle. I can't really imagine why it would kick a code but maybe if the engine isn't getting the airflow it needs, it would. I read the post about the clips; is there anything else I need to know about replacing the hose?

Thoughts?

I doubt that would be the case. I ran mine for almost a year with a broken one until I replaced it last spring. It's still getting air, just some of it would be from inside the engine compartment instead of pulling from the grill. Go get your code pulled from Autozone (they do it for free) to make sure though.

Yeah, that's sorta what I thought, too. I have the part so i'll throw it in and then run the code. I may also pick up some MAF cleaner and try to sort through the forum for a good guide on doing that.

Thanks!

So I replaced my air hose w/ an MB unit and wow...it made a difference! The car is definitely idling smoother (although it wasn't super rough to begin with). I'm glad I did it!

It didn't seem to have anything to do w/ the code, which was related to the thermostat/coolant temp, but i'm still pleased with the result.

How badly was it split?
Mine is also split - looks 'kinda' ok at first glance, but it definitely sucks some air from inside the engine compartment.

Mine split a few years ago. I just used Krazy Glue and popped it back together?

Considering it's just a hose connecting the intake to the outside, I can't see how this thing would affect the performance of the car at all? Looks like the bends in the tube are more for keeping water out, and even then there's another plenum where the engine air filter is located.. That's why I never bothered replacing mine..

Mine was coming unraveled at both ends. I duct-taped it but it didn't stick well to the fabric. The new unit was $50 from the dealer so it's a relatively inexpensive fix.

I'm not sure why a torn hose would have a deleterious effect on operation...perhaps the engine isn't getting enough volume or the flow is too turbulent or something. All I know is that for at least a day, my car idled smoother than it has ever before.

Does anybody have a part number for this air hose you all speak of? Mine is in very bad condition and I would like to replace it. I would try to search but I don't even know what it's called
THANKS!

Replace the tubing

I had my thermostat housing replaced on my 03 c230k and the o-ring didn’t seal properly so the tubing got wet and split apart. Looking at it I realized that there is no reason to pay $50+ dollars to replace the whole intake tube when 3” intake tubing is very cheap and is easily attached to the hard plastic end pieces.

You can get a plastic airduct hose from Auto Zone for about $20. Made by Spectre, part number 8741. See YouTube

I repaired mine for a while by putting a open ended tin can or pop can (just find something that fits snugly) inside the ripped area as a coupler and applying two hose clamps.

A few weeks later I had an OEM replacement. No real difference between the two in how the car ran but I felt better with the new one. About $50 for the OEM version from an online retailer. Knock-offs on Amazon were about $30.
