EPA C320 vs C240
I am surprised that the C240's EPA is at best no better than the C320's. Both engines seem to be basically the same design and with the extra displacement/power and extra 100 lbs of weight I would think the EPA for the C320 would be less. Any thoughts? In real driving is there a difference?
Thanks.

I have no idea that they have the same EPA rating. My guess would be in real life the 240 will use less gas, but that's just my guess. On the loaner car that I got last time the C240 had something like 20-21 mpg average for the two days that I drive that car. My c32 gets around 17-18 if i'm lucky. the 320 should be some where in between

10.5 miles one way to work, construction, city traffic, A/C, maybe 40 mph avg, 15 min, traffic lights, I avg 22 - 22.5 mpg with my C320.

2003 C240 4matic
Thanks for your replies. The EPA for the C320 is:
20/26 Automatic
17/25 Manual
The C240 is:
19/25 Automatic
17/26 Manual
I traded in my Audi S4 on a C240 4matic automatic. I loved the S4 except I wanted a better ride without sacrificing too much in handling and (road not track and highway stability I decided that the extra power of the C320 was not necessary for me.
I was just curious about the EPA's as they surprised me. I got my C240 in June and love it, although once in a while a miss the fun of the added acceleration of the S4.
After driving the BMW 325 XI and Audi A4 Quattro I decided that the Mercedes had the best combination of handling and ride for me. I am not disappointed. I love the handling, ride and stability and it is the least tiring car to drive that I have ever owned.
Currently, I am averaging over 20 mpg overall and about 25/26 on the highway.

My C320 commute...
17 miles one way to work,
first 4 miles city stop/go (40mph limited),
next 4 miles 40-50mph congested Interstate highway under construction,
next 6 miles open Interstate (70-80mph),
last 3 miles city traffic (40mph limited).
average speed (either direction):32mph.
I average 24.3 mpg in the mornings without A/C, 23.2 on the return trip in the afternoon with the A/C on. My tank to tank average speed is 32mph, with an average fuel economy of 24mpg.
22,000 miles on the odo. (Your mileage improves over a very long period of time).
