I came across a good deal on the bmw 3series, while looking for a c230 for my gf. I drove the older 3series and it handle like a boat and was disappointed. What are your guys' thoughts?

theyre decent cars imho... ever consider the acura tl or a subaru legay gt like around 06. I love the legacy gt spec b. but the regular legacy gt are nice too...

If the E46 handled like a boat to you then something was definitely wrong.

Also, I second phister - considered a TL? The 06 TL 6MT is a great car.

Mmmm, spec b would me my choice, too.

I don't understand an owner of a MB saying that a BMW handles like a boat, honestly.

My wife had a 2008 328i with sport package and MT 6 speed. Great mix with the 3.0 litre I6 and the 6 speed. It handled like it was on rails. Great car, comfortable, no issues. Wouldn't hesitate to get another one. We needed more room- or we'd stiil have it. The run flats were a bit loud, but that was really the only complaint we had with it.

Agreed. E46 was a very well balanced-handling machine....

i say no for 325i or 328i, they are junk, interior is really crowded and everything just felt weird, interior looks really cheap, their look is already outdated to me, it get that dumb feeling when you step on the gas pedel the car has to think about it for a second before moving and brakes is just waaay too sensitive for my liking.

335i totally felt like a different car, why not go for a SLK

328 handle quite well when I've driven in them. I think its pretty balanced between power and handling.

The e90 325 or 328 are nice, but one without option has the bmw standard 3series of cheapness feel to it. Find one with decent options like the nav etc is probably gonna cost more than you would spent on a used 325 328.

For around the same price range of the 325/328 you can find a nice IS350 with boat load of features and performance to boot.

I am biased towards E60 (2006 or 2007 530i) with N52 I6 engine.
