07 c280 wiper fluid level sensor possibly bad?

Just bought this car lastnight, noticed the wiper fluid level HUD was on and topped off the res. The warning is still on that I have low washer fluid. Might I need to reset the sensor or is a new level sensor in my future?

Thanks guys!

are you referring to the drain plug and gasket or the replacement cap for the trans dipstick?

FYI its a lot easier if you just start your own build thread and put all your questions in one area so you dont have to keep searching through the forum for them.

I'll start a thread right now. Thank you sir!

I was referring to the washer fluid level sensor. My heads up display shows that I'm low but the the reservoir is clearly full.

Is there a sensor reset process? Is the sensor common to go bad? Is this possibly caused by a bad pump with an internal sensor?

Thank you!

Did you check your coolant level too? Sometimes that's know to trigger it too. The sensor has been know to go out and they offer a newer design on the sensor.

I opened the coolant res this morning and can't see the level. Should the res be topped off? Before I bought the car I had a mechanic check it over and he made notes that all fluids were topped off and he noted added fluid to the wiper tank.

Tried the washer pump today. It's dead. No fluid is spraying. Does a dead pump in anyway effect the fluid level sensor?

Welcome Stuka, Lets learn some names that are associated with Benz cars. A heads up display is a projection system that throws an image on the windshield. C class does not have that. You have an "instrument cluster" (IC) and in the center of the IC there is an MFD (Multi-Function Display.) This responds to messages sent on the canBUS to alert you to items needing attention.

Can you hear the motor run for the windshield washer? If you can, it simply might be blocked nozzles. People often use tap water and minerals clog the tiny holes. A Klann tool makes quick work of cleaning and aiming the nozzles.

If the tank is full and you cannot hear the motor run, the motor might be bad, the wiring or connector open, or highly less likely the front SAM or stalk switch is bad. The same harness breakout connects the washer motor and the liquid level sensor. The wire could be cut, or the connectors corroded.

The sensor is made by Hella and is about 17 bucks at Pelican. It is a float with a magnet in it. A magnetic reed switch is in the body. If you mount it upside down the magnet will float away from the reed switch and say empty when it is full. The same minerals that clog the nozzles can also cause the "hinge" on the float to be stuck. You can take it out and rinse in vinegar and see if it works. As you move the float against the body the two contact pins should read a short on a meter.

When you do get around to filling the washer tank, the dealers have an excellent product you mix with distilled water to clean the glass and prevent freezing the solution.
