And so far no one has designed a better one.

Is it just me, or did anybody else try to sign up with K&N's developer program for the '02 coupe without results?

I can't say that I noticed either from the seat. I guess there must be some benefit, but it could be a Fernando mod (feel v. look). I think Buellwinkle dynoed an ITG filter last fall.

That's the filter, but K&N says they need an '02 C230 to prototype for a CAI... And I want that CAI...

Try calling them. Maybe person to person will get you better results. I would do it but I cant live for 5 days without my car!

The '02 coupe has been on that list for some time now. I wouldn't count on anything being available anytime soon. Last year, I tried a cone filter in place of the airbox and it felt a little faster, but probably only because of the sound. It was louder, and you could even hear the bypass valve close when you lift off the throttle. It sounded kind of like a blowoff valve, but pretty quiet.

If anyone wants to try it, the cone that I got is part #RU-1480. The biggest problem is that the collar where you attach it is somewhat oval, while the filter is round. The tighter you make the hose clamp, the more it wants to slip off the end. So you just have to find a better way to attach it. Mine fell off the first night and chewed up the filter a bit. I haven't tried anything since.
