a/c not cooling issue on new w203 engine
hello MBWorld, check this out >>It's hot as heck
so far we have changed:
-the compressor
-the measured lubrication inside the compressor
-the condenser
-added the proper amount of freon
-a soft reset on the a/c control panel using defrost and recycle buttons by holding them together till they blinked. the reset went on for 15 minutes then it stopped blinking after reset apparently completed.
a/c still not cooling
also we:
-"changed the entire engine for a rebuilt one, in perfect running conditions" >> (does this have anything to do with a/c not cooling?)
I looked at the different threads regarding w203 a/c issues before posting this one
however, none seemed to have the specific details as this particular issue with most
of the major components already replaced and it is still not cooling.
thanks in advance for any attention/information provided.
evap temp sensor? << is this a possible issue for cooling >> which I have not yet looked at?

it took 15 minutes? that is way to long should only take 30 seconds or so have you hooked the car up to a STAR system yet?

Have you confirmed that the compressor is engaging?
E.g. by the rise in high side pressure after the AC button is pressed.
Are the pressures within specs?
Nice color BTW

My A/C quit working too.
Never heard of the HVAC reset, so I gave it a try. Ran for 20 mins before I shut the car off. Lights never did quit blinking.
Sucks in these 90+ temps.

I will run it through STAR sys now and see what the happs is if any codes come up.
thanks again for that tip I struggled for a while thinking I could outdo a STAR sys.

thanks for your reply and observation regarding compressor engaging>> and the color props "Paprika" MB gave it the name in the paint code
I confirm engagement and also checked that power was reaching the compressor as I pressed the a/c on and off button however, something strange appeared to me as I stared hard at the compressor as it turned.
I had a friend hit the a/c on/off as I looked directly at the center bolt that
comes out the front of compressor (car is on of course) so what I see is that the bolt is not turning at all... not looking proper.
my question is>> should the front bolt which holds in the compressor clutch area, be turning as it is engaged or not?
...looks weird to me, I put a socket to it and, it completely turns with out engaging

Hmm.. nobody's answered.
I can only guess, but if that bolt turns freely - chances are the pulley is broken.
Several people here had problems when the alternator pulley ("sprag bearing") failure was causing the AC pulley to break and spin freely => new AC compressor needed.
How new is your AC compressor? Brand new, or did you buy it from a recycler/rebuilder?
