How can I remove the panel that is behind the license plate of the wagon. Is it necessary to remove the trim on the inside of the door?

I tried to do that, taking out the black screws and spreader clips around the perimeter of the interior trim of the back door, but cannot get the trim off - there must be some clip or hook I haven't found and i don't want to rip any plastic parts of by pulling too hard.
