dealership oil change
if I sent an oil sample to black stones labs would they know what the oil weight is and maybe the type. I've been going to this mechanic who does the oil changes like a "dealership". I still have the 5quarts of old oil since I bought a mityvac.
If so would this guy put in mobile 5w-40 esp or 5w-30 m formula?
would this damage anything? I already sued him and won but not about the engine oil.
I went 7k miles during the winter with one of these and the car sounded like **** at startup. then he changed it again I went 2k miles. then I got the mityvac and put 0w-40 in. everything is back to normal.
thank you

MBWorld Fanatic!
Blackstone will tell you what the oil being used is. They always did for me.
You're taking your car to a mechanic that you have previously sued? Really? That seems - unwise.
Take your own oil if you're as picky about it as I am. The proper oils are important. With M1 0W-40 and a paper filter (as no fleece are available) my 2005 C230K was able to run 13,000 intervals with no issues - I sent a sample for analysis every 26,000 miles.

Out Of Control!!
Actually, you did. ![bs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bs.gif)
If your car's running fine now with new oil, I doubt you'll be able to get a CSI team good enough to pinpoint exactly how much perceived wear and tear went on while it held the "bad" oil.
If your car's running fine now, I'd just move on, and learn your lesson about checking out your indies before trusting them. You could always have asked him what oil he was planning to use (especially after one bad batch that he had already put in at that point
), or brought your own oil if you weren't happy with it (though if I knew he was going to use subpar oil in my car, I wouldn't let him near it).
