"Help" ESP question...... Noobie:(

Wanted to burnout at my work and FAILED I pushed the ESP button which I thought turned traction control off. The ESP light in my gauge cluster illuminated letting me know it was off but the car still acted like it was engaged. Ex: while power braking the rear wheels would spin for a sec then stop, spin for a sec then stop. The car can burn out but just wouldn't let itself!! So does that mean the ESP is stuck on?

To clarify: turning off ESP at the dash leaves a residual portion of the system on. As sammy said, do a search for dyno mode to see how to completely turn it off.

Note, though, that messing with the electronics on an old car is not always a good thing. Nor are burnouts, for that matter.

The reason for the attempted burnout was to determine if the system was working properly. My cruise control keeps turning itself off without me hitting the break or disengaging it and I was told ESP not working properly could be a cause. So I obviously determined the system works but was confused as to why the car wouldn't let me spin the rears with the system shut down.

People in dyno-mode doing burn outs often find themselves at the parts counter buying a new power steering pump.

What are you? 12? Don't do it.

Your cruise not working can be a dodgy brake switch, a bad clockspring on the steering shaft, a poor connection to the steering wheel, or a failed wheel speed sensor system.
