Audio Woes
My '04 audio system sucks. I want what everyone wants, to be able to plug/connect with my phone but, all roads lead to 'too effing bad".
I have the crappy base head unit, no bluetooth, speakers that are either on the fritz, an automatic volume controller that doesnt care what speed I'm going when it adjusts and a 6 disc changer that is useless to me.
I was told swapping a nicer OEM head unit in is not possible, I was also told by they people at Best Buy(I don't need great audio just something) that it's a total rewire to get an aftermarket head unit in there if you can find the adapters.
So my options are fm transmitter/ bluetooth adaper (which is essentially a wireless fm transmitter) or the old tape deck adapter.
Can someone with some more MB specific know-how give me the bottom line on getting decent, wireless, smartphone capable audio into this thing?

What you need is to find a decent audio place that has worked on a Mercedes before. If you do only have the stock system it is really no different then any VW or Honda to put in a new head unit. You can get the adaptors online and even keep your steering wheel controls if you buy the right stuff. you will also need a dash kit for the new HU which is also easy to get online. Do a search on here and you will find everything you need to know as your car is now old and everything audio related has been done before. Also never take your car to BestBuy for audio work I have personally seen to many cars screwed up by them. that said some do have decent installers but it is not worth the risk IMO.
