conductor plate 2004 C230 Kompressor Sport
Good morning guys, I have a 2004 C230 Kompressor that I cannot go pass 25 miles per hour (Limp mode) and I’m getting an error code P0 715. From all I read online it’s the Speed sensor/conductor plate. I called my dealership and they have the part available for $213.27 but I wanted to know if someone has a diagram or anything instruction on how to fix this issue? From what I read online, it’s an easy fix but dealership is telling me its inside the transmission and if that’s the case, I won’t be able to do this myself.

If you can change pilot adapter bushing,.... Partial transmission oil change with new gasket and filter (search) then you should be able to do this,.... But then again if you actually did these thing, you probably would not be in this situation,..... Once you drop the transmission pan,... the conductor plate is right there,.... its what the pilot adapter bushing connects to,..... anyways if you leave one speck of dust in there,... Your problem is just beginning.

Yeah thanks for the lecture and help...I'm assuming you are the type that takes his car completely apart every weekend to make sure absolutely nothing that can happen won't happen. Again, thanks.

Search,..... We see a lot of these transmission failures,.... Conductor plates, torque converters, transmission rebuilds,... Usually related to poor transmission maintenance,..... Not necessarily the owners fault,..... It's mb-USA and mb-Canada insisting transmission oil on these cars are sealed for life and never need changing,..... Whereas in ROW it's partial oil change every 60,000km
Anyways,... What's your location and mileage,..... Let me guess,.... Somewhere in USA and over 100,000
Change it yourself,..... Take off pan then bolt off conductor plate,...

Yeah man. Live in Kansas. From what I've read it seems like a not too complicated procedure. But the dealer said its in the transmission. Which if that's the case I won't be able to do it myself. But from everywhere I've sent too (online) people said its fairly easy. I did find a pic of the part I think. Ill do some more research. Below is a pic I found. Thanks again Canada! I have family up there. Montreal to be exact.

It's at the bottom of transmission,..... Easy access when you drop the pan,.... Not rocket science,.... Do yourself a favour and do your partial transmission oil change, filter, gasket and pilot adapter bushing all at the same time,....
Just be glad it's not torque converter which is buried deep inside transmission or transmission rebuild,.... Those would require real transmission experts.

not a hard thing to do but like he said cleanliness is the key. easier to do if you have a lift but i doubt you do. took me about 2 hours and thats with breaks and crossing my Ts and dotting my Is. i used gloves, dropped the pan, its inside there. switch out the plate and put the solenoids back where they were. i did all of this on a brand new 100 percent cotton sheet everything was super clean. then fill back up with tranny fluid and use a new filter and gasket. mine is a 320 so replaced 4 quarts. a little advice too, rockauto.com has a whole package just for this project. its all oem parts and mann parts so its good stuff. gasket filter plate etc they even send the bushing plug that you should replace all for less then the dealers price of just the plate. good luck and let us know how it goes. also make sure you have the codes cleared before and after the job because ive seen sometimes it still acts up if the codes are stored.

Agreed,.... The only issue I would have is the cotton sheet,... Even new they give off too much lint,.... You want a lint free environment,... So use lint free drop towels or plastic drop cloth
Btw,... You'd be surprise of all the DIY you could get done with a good set of ramps

Yeah,... Diagram is accurate,.... Just missing magnet - some cars don't have them,.... And not showing transmission pan gasket. Can't really recall if mine had transmission drain plug,.... Just drop the pan and drained that way,....
Search for DIY on partial transmission oil change and pilot adapter bushing for our transmission,.... Follow that and change out conductor plate,.... Simple,....
Also,... Look around your pilot adapter bushing for oil leak,.... That oil could work it's way up to transmission control unit under front passenger floorboard and trigger your error,....

Ill check them out but just in case let me ask. The Mercedes dealership misquoted me the price and its actually over 300 for the conductor plate but my question is, Carquest here has that same part for 205.00 but I've hear that these are VIN specific. Is that a true statement for this part? Thanks again. Sorry for all the questions. Just wanna get this right before I do anything.

For the 722.6 transmission they are not vin coded I believe that on the 722.9 (7 speed) you have to use star to vin code and adapt the part to the car.
If and when you do this I would recommend doing a full fluid flush if you search on here for one man transmission flush or something like that you will get very good instructions that make the job so much easier.
Also find a supplier for shell 134 it is MB approved fluid for the 722.6 and 722.9 and can usually be found for between $4.50 and $6 a quart which is usually over half off of the MB fluid or other brands of approved fluid.
They use to sell it on the website http://www.ryderfleetproducts.com/ry...oductDetail.do
but if you have a location near you I have heard you can just buy it in store from them they said they had issues shipping it.
