Disabling No Phone Message - Difficulty...

I used the steps listed on this forum to have the No Phone message removed from my dash display, while the car was getting some other minor items updated from my last service. (My 2002 C230 is now up to 3150 miles after 17 months of ownership)

Anyway, when I got in the car the display said TEL and below it read OFF. Hmm, was that right? After driving a few hundred yards, it changed back to the good old NO PHONE message. Did the dealer do something wrong? My thought was the message would be removed altogether.

Please advise if you have had the message removed successfully, as I want to go back and inform them they did something wrong. Thanks.

I'm not really sure but it sounds like the dealer changed the setting to enable the phone kit (even though its not there)...if that's possible.

My car says 'Phone Off' when the phone is not in the cradle.

Yes you are right. if/when you get it set correctly there will no longer be a "Menu Position" for the "No Phone" message.

Meaning that when you go around the loop of menus, there will be one less than there was before.

This is obviously not what you got.

Had it done also. Printed off the instructions from this forum and showed them to the stealer. All of a sudden he was able to do it whereas on delivery he said it couldn't be done.

i just asked my dealer to disable it when i took it in for service. it was annoying while scrolling through the screens. they didnt have a problem. but when i asked them to enable the navi, they acted likek they didnt know what i was talking about and insisted it didnt work like that. a salesman had to show the service guy what i was talking about.

They didn't follow the directions (maybe they forgot to toggle to the 'not present' setting). I had exactly the same experience as amdeutsch. I asked for the setting to be removed; the SA said it couldn't be done; I gave him the printed instructions, he said "OK we'll try it."
