Can I throw a hard drive magnet on my trans pan to collect debris?

Can I throw a hard drive magnet on my trans pan to collect debris?
So I went to change my trans fluid today but forgot a magnet for the pan. I was thinking about a solution after I finished the refill. I'm very friendly with the IT guys at work and I'm sure they could throw me some used hard drive magnets if I asked. As some of you may know, hard drive magnets are extremely small and retarded strong. Would it do any good to stick about four magnets on the bottom of my trans OUTSIDE of the pan?
I'm not well versed on magnetic properties or the dynamic of magnetic transference.
Thoughts?

I cannot see any problem but if they are pushed/rubbed off, a large lump of fine iron will be will be sucked up to the filter. . The fine magnetic material should adhere to the bottom of the pan if they stay in situ .
Safest to bite the bullet & drain , remove pan & replace magnet. Think of it as an extra thorough flush & drain.
Then kick your butt hard so that you do not forget next time.
