Exclamation Service B

Hi,

I own a 2005 C180K (W203) (Engine - 271.946) with an automatic transmission. Currently on 57K miles.

I am about to carry out "Service B" on my C180K and I was going through the check list and saw that the automatic transmission fluid and filter may need changing (service book states vehicles with NAG1, NAG2) (I have no idea what this means or what transmission type the vehicle has)

I looked on autodata for the service schedule checks and it says "only vehicles with transmission types 722.6 & 722.9 only from VIN A745749, F648300 or R173714. Once only at 36000 miles / 60000km".
My VIN ends in R200856 and i am not sure if the vehicle has ever had a fluid change in the past.

I am not used to working on MB's, I am too used to Vauxhalls!

I am completely confused on whether or not to change the transmission fluid and filter?

Can someone help me please!?

The 5 speed 722.6 atm is usually serviced EVERY ( not once) 60,000 km. I did mine at 50,000km.

If the oil is still a good clean colour a pan drain & filter change is all that is required.

If the oil is dark & smells burnt then a complete flush is the way to go.

Change the electro/hydraulic bush if it is leaking & also the pan gasket.

If you do not have a drain plug on your torque convertor you can drain quite a bit more oil out of the system by leaving it to drain overnight.it was an extra 1.5 litres for me.

There are some good instructions on this site for the oil change. Use the MB recommended oil.

Good luck.

JC
