Heat Shield Bolts and Washers
Hopefully an easy cheap fix for this one. Had a rattling noise coming from the midsection of the car yesterday. Looks like the shaped heat shield that sits above the exhaust midsection is usually fixed to the chassis by several built in bolts. A couple of those attachments have rusted through or something - what I now have is a heat shield that sits on top of the exhaust and rattles around, making the annoying noise.
The heat shield has a round hole in it where it would fit over the bolt. There's no sign of a washer or nut however.
If I can locate the right size nuts, I'm guessing I can WD40 the bolt and fit an oversized washer on it to hold the shield nice and snug. Alternatively, if someone can point me to a cheap uk supplier of suitably sized locking / star washers, that might also suffice. (You know the ones you can push up the bolts that are like a metal ring with flat "shark teeth" pointing towards the middle and angled down slightly?)
Please advise if anyone knows the correct parts, or indeed has a better cheap fix. Thanks.
NOTE: I assume it was originally held on with bolts? Please confirm I'm looking for the right thing!
