c240 steering wheel adjust lock light

Today I was replacing my sisters faulty accelerator pedal. Before doing the work I disconnected the neg terminal of the battery, then adjusted the steering wheel to it's highest position. Everything went well, until I connected the battery and got a "steering wheel adjust lock" warning on the instrument panel. I then locked the steering wheel and the warning did not go away.

I have searched and only found others that were having issues with the steering wheel not locking. Just to be clear...the steering does lock, however I am still getting this error message. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Make sure you've got the telescopic lock locked in too.

Ok, so I found out today that it is in fact NOT locked. I haven't taken it part yet to see what is broken. The manual lock will now not lock at all. Has anyone repaired this them self before?

Do a search on here I think I remember someone having this issue a few years ago. I think some plastic thing broke or something.
