RSX-S tried, failed to make me his b!tch

A debadged RSX-S (he left the "type S") I knew from the larger stock exhaust pipe anyway, thought he could squash me like a bug. Happy to report that he couldn't pull on me straight to 110! It was actually about as even a match up as possible. We didn't get side by side at a stop light but I felt I had the high speed edge, pulling slightly but feeling enough was enough as speeds were well beyond the century mark. No clear winner, great match up really got the blood flowing this morning on my way to work! Proud of the little Merc for hanging real tough and maintaining 100% composure as things got heated. I think I definitely surprised Mr. RSX man, he's supposed to win after all!

the RSX-S is more than a second faster 0-60 than a C230........i would think that regardless of slight differences in driver skill, he should still walk away from you. are all RSX-S's manual? have you done any mods to your car? are you a fairly skilled driver? pretty impressive....never would have thought you could do that.

Yes

and yes.

No offense, but that shouldn't have been the result. RSX guy is a bad driver, or there was something wrong with his car. Unless, like you said, Zim's got some mods that I don't know about.

Zim, any guesses?

The RSX is faster to 60 by a second if you drop the hammer from redline and hold 2nd to redline. The faster 0-60 time is evident only by the RSX not having to shift into 3rd. In a street race, the RSX driver would surely shift to 3rd before redline, evening up the advantage the RSX has on paper.

0-60 times have to stop being used as a marker of performance, they just aren't accurate especially when companies like BMW are willing to lengthen 1st and 2nd gears just to achieve this performance measure.

I believe they are all manual. R&T tested it @6.7 & 15.2@92.7. Those are not far off from the 02 manual coupe which got 7.2, can't remember the 1/4 but it was low 15s per R&T if I remember correctly. And yes, I hold my driving talent in pretty high regard! No mods here either, but I am lighter by whatever the rear badging weighs!! No sunroof or other weight adding options either. Maybe he wasn't running it all the way up to redline but I was on it full out esp off, no vent on even! There wasn't a question of effort, I thought he was Rowdy Burns and I was Cole Trickle, it was great and we saluted each other when he went a different way.

The RSX-S drives like a Civic under 6000rpm, it's between 6000-9000rpm when it starts to flex it's muscle. And remember, even though the RSX-S is rated at 200hp, it has only 142 lb-ft of torque!

At 6000rpm, our Kompressor engines are reaching red-line! Thank god for 192 lb-ft of low-end torque!

The torque comes on very early (in the 2.3s anyway) and the engine never runs out of breath, until that pesky rev limiter of course which I managed to avert this time! The 02s actually produce 207 lb-ft (stated in the manual) vs the 200 that was published. I certainly don't want to start another war, but I don't think the 1.8 could've hung in there. That's not just based on test numbers, I've driven both and know the 02s have the edge, a notable one in the first half of the RPM range. I think I'll conduct some testing once I get my accelerometer for Christmas! I wonder if the dealer would mind, anyone tried this?

I was day dreaming afterwards about how hard I would've smoked him in a GTO. I Actually stopped by Pontiac yesterday, (I've never said that before) they guess a week, maybe two and they'll have a 6 speed available for test drive. It would be a feel good story for me to buy American, mags like it, nice interior, it just might work for me- who knows.

The GTO is a rebadged Holden Monaro. It is built in Australia.

Yeah, I know. So you'd consider buying an M-Class which is built in Alabama buying American? True, I'm not helping Detroit workers stay employed directly, but Holden is still GM.

And the people who build the M class are Americans. But this is the age of globalization.

this civic tried to make me his b!tch the other day, it was really a close race. I could tell he was red-lining and changing gears feverishly, but at the end i just pedaled away letting him eat my bicycle dust.

Do they make much of a difference? By the way Lynn, I was messing around on the German MB site and orion blue translates to tansanitblau, jaspisblau is a much brighter blue. Might want to update your sig! I also noted that the C320c starts at 33,350 EUR. My German is shaky at best, does it come with alot more stuff standard or are we getting a much better deal than the homeland?

Fast Cars!
I raced some kids RSX twice from a roll at about 40mph to 100 and got him both times easy. Never raced him from a stop. Although this was with my RennTech pulley, never raced one stock.

Orion is brighter than Capri. Capri is pretty dark. The German site doesn't show the colors as well as MBUSA and MBUSA is too good.

No its not. Worst case scenario(6.7 to 7.6 Best RSX time vs. worst C230 time) is less than a second. Worst published RSX time(that Ive seen) is 7.4 seconds, best C230 published time Ive seen is 7.1seconds. Its that ill timed shift to third on the C230 that knocks it off the pace of the RSX. It actually launches harder and is faster till 30, dead even at 40 and 50, and gains the advantage when we have to shift.

Ive done plenty of stop light to stoplight drags with the RSX...you will not be embarrassed. On the street, the RSX can't sit at the light with 7K wound up on the tack waiting for the tree to go green. And on the highway, he has to really work the gearbox to stay with you.
