Reprogramming requires after shifter assembly replacement?

If you have replaced your shifter, can you please help?
Hi all,
I got a used shifter and replaced it myself because the stealership said my previous one was causing the P0705 code. However, although the part# matched with the old one, I'm seeing delays when shifting gears (gearbox vs dashboard) and tiptronic doesn't work. Someone told me i have to take my ride back to the stealership for a reprogram due to the swap of the shifter assembly.
Can you tell me if that's true?
