Audio 10 Price

I am planning to change the stock HU to Audio 10 and wondering how much the NEW audio 10 cost in Germany.

I have contacted german parts dealer and he quoted about EUR410. (I think it is the price of unit itself)

Is there anybody know the price of it in Germany?

Thanks in advance.

If you are dead set on a new one you might want to keep in mind that you can get the added value tax back once you show proof of the export; i.e. get a customs stamp on the receipt over here and sent the original stamped receipt, keep copy for yourself, back to the place of purchase. I believe that tax to be 16%. Make sure that the seller includes the necessary and correct paperwork.

Now if you want an English manual you would have to order it from a UK dealer. You might want to ask some of our UK members or Buellwinkle for help. I think Cliffybaby is from the UK. But I don't know how the tax situation works here.

You third option would be Steve, aka MBenzNL. He sells used, exchanged, new car takeouts, etc at good prices. He also does installs and is quite often in CA doing all kinds of mods for members. Everybody here seems to be very happy with him, the product quality and to my knowledge his "warranty" support of stuff he sells. He definitely worked hard for his rep on here.

Your last option would be of course ebay.de.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information, amdeutsch!

The reason I posted the thread is to figure out the price range
of "NEW" audio 10 unit. I have contacted Steve and found out he only has used one.

I found a website having new ones in the states, but the price seems too expensive.

Is there anybody who bought New Audio 10 in Germany or Europe? How much did you pay?

regards,

Which Audio 10 do you want. There are two available

Audio 10 CC, AM/FM radio with cassette or
Audio 10 CD, AM/FM radio with CD player.

If you're interested in the Audio 10 CD, forget it. It's sh***. Here in Germay, all Audio 10 CD owners complains poor FM reception and problems with CD-Rs. There're two companies, building the OEM radios and you can detect them in the serial no. BE : Stands for Becker (Harman/Kardon). These are sightly better than the AL (Alpine).

The European FM range is limited to 87 to 108 MHz and divided into 0.5MHz steps.

Good radios are available at the Mercedes 2nd hand and part outlet shop : http://www.mbatc.de (sorry German only) but delivery arround the world.

Current price:
Audio 10 CC from 155,- EUR
Audio 10 CD from 210,- EUR

All prices include 16% VAT. A VAT reduction is not available, because these are used parts. Due to European regulation, a 1 year waranty is included.

Kein Problem

To complete my last post:
If you're looking for a good original radio/cd combination buy a Audio 10CC plus CD-charger or spend more money on the Command System plus CD-charger.

Also the Audio 30 APS (Voice Navigation from Becker) is a very good choice, but I'm not shure, if it's available outside Europe. This radio has got the best reception of all radios for the W203.

My German Audio 10 CD plays CD-R's exclusively without a poblem. Also reception is pretty good considering I'm in a suburban fringe area between LA and San Diego. FM is FM, same in the U.S. and Europe. You do get RDS and some people like that. AM is different but for the news stations I would listen to it works fine even though it can't tune to the exact frequency. Also it's a short AM band, I think it only goes to 1600kz. And you'll lose the weather band but gain short wave for what it's worth. But you can't compare it to the U.S. factory radio, the Audio 10 sounds much better with deep bass. That alone is worth it. Sure you can get an aftermarket radio that sounds better but is it worth that tacked on look and loss of steering wheel controls? Not to me.

Be happy, you have a Becker radio. But you'll have problems with some copy protected CD's. Also the Becker systems has less problems with stereo reception.
Also reception is pretty good considering I'm in a suburban fringe area between LA and San Diego. FM is FM, same in the U.S. and Europe. You do get RDS and some people like that.
I had a aftermarket radio from the PX. US Radios have a broader FM band and a diferent fraction. Compared with other radios offered by Mercedes Benz, the reception is verry lousy. That's the reason, why you can find so many used Audio 10 CD at eBay or MBATC.
AM is different but for the news stations I would listen to it works fine even though it can't tune to the exact frequency. Also it's a short AM band, I think it only goes to 1600kz. And you'll lose the weather band but gain short wave for what it's worth.
AM reception is dieing in Europe, because of the high dense of FM stations. Therefore I have no experiance in AM reception.
But you can't compare it to the U.S. factory radio, the Audio 10 sounds much better with deep bass. That alone is worth it. Sure you can get an aftermarket radio that sounds better but is it worth that tacked on look and loss of steering wheel controls? Not to me.
That's true. For some aftermarket radios, adapters for the steering weel controls are available, but the central display (?) won't work.

I do want to say that my Audio10CD sometimes has problems reading CD-Rs. Sometimes it "switches" to radio during CD playback, and then switches back to CD mode a second later.

I'm sooo glad that I switched OEM cassette with Audio 10. The sound difference is so amazing. I bough mine used and paid very little for it and have had not problems so far. I even installed it myself. I was worried because everyone in the forum said it take approx 1 1/2 - 2 hours to install. After reading the install directions a few times I got all my tools and 55 minutes later I was listening to my favorite CD and enjoying the huge sound difference.

Hi,

I live in the Uk. I have an Audio 10 CD and I have to say I disagree with the comments about it being poor. This unit has more punch and a higher quality sound than any other sub £400 car stereo I have owned and certtainly better than any stock stero I have suffered over the years. There is nothing wrong with my FM reception on my unit. The unit plays both CDR and CDRW and never does anyting strange. It also plays Copy protected CD's (such as David Gray's latest CD).

I have the standard sound system (not BOSE) and the subwoofer in the back parcel shelf really makes all the difference.

The only gripe I have is the lack of searching through an individual track on the CD.

Other than that I would thoroughly recommend it.

Cheers,

Paul
