It sounds like it's coming from your supercharger/turbo manifold since that is the location. Remove the cover so you can confirm that. I'm not really familiar with the m111 engine or kompressors in general, i'd say you need a new turbo or have someone look at it? If someone with more knowledge can confirm, that'll be great.
I'm honestly just taking an educated guess lol.

Darkdiver, did you find out what this noise was caused by? Sounds like a belt idler bearing to me.
I have a 2000 C200K with the M111 engine and just had a similar issue. I could swear that the noise, in my case a deep rattling noise, was coming from within the cam cover, but it turned out to be the water pump.
Of course, I took the spark cover and cam cover off first to investigate, and what should have been a quick water pump replacement has turned into a major re-paint of the two covers. Mine were badly blistered and flaking. The loose flaking coating inside the cam cover was pretty scary, and I didn't want to put it back together like that.
Graham.

Put on a stethoscope and you will be able to isolate (pinpoint) where the sound is coming from. I had a vacuum leak and was able to isolate it to the seals on the master cyl.
Good luck.

Yep, after finding nothing awry under the cam cover, I used a length of 3/8 PVC tube as a stethoscope and quickly found the rattle was coming from the water pump. A tube like this is even better for chasing air/vacuum leaks.
Still curious to hear what the OP found.
