what is this??? plz help
hi guys
im recently having a rebuild of my engine because the tensioner seized and I found out that through out the whole engine it was like oil and dirt all mixed up. when I used to start the car its used to go tick tick tick fast for about 3-5 sec
so top came off and then the oil pan and this is what was found in there. can anyone shed any light on where its come from

Not many people have pulled their engines apart.
Mine goes tick tick sometimes.
But I have 214K and likely the engine will just fail at some point
and i'll get one from a junk yard. So you are actually rebuilding from scratch?
Wow, that's gotta be expensive! M111 or M271 ? You don't say what year your car is.
I'll take a guess and say it's a damaged lifter you're looking at, but just a guess.
Or part of the failed tensioner?
You are likely the 1st person here to do a complete rebuild, please take some pics and post as much info as possible!!!!

Ya, M111 or M271?
If that's a handle from a pair of channel locks, I doubt it's from a tensioner. The spring looks closer to the size you would find in a pen. Way too small to be from a tensioner.
From what you described, you may have a timing chain issue.

my car is a 2004 M271. it has 135k mile on it.
the tensioner did fail and ive been doing a bit of research and i think its from the oil pump. i think is an oil pressure regulator valve.
