C230 Kompressor Sport
Question Fog light replacement w/sport pkg (driver side)

Hello,
I need to replace the entire driver side fog light assemble on my 2005 c230 kompressor sport. The passenger side was easy as there was plenty of space to remove the old light with the new one. The driver side is not so easy. I cant replace the driver fog light side because the windshield wash fluid tank is right in back of the fog light. Do I have to remove the windshield washer fluid tank to be able to remove the fog light? If so, can I get some help on how to remove the tank? Were are the screws, etc.

Thanks,
Robert

Leave the washer tank in place. Remove the bumper. It's easier. Lots of threads here about removing the bumper, or you could invest in a $15 Haynes manual from your favorite parts store.

You need the right tools. It's removable without taking the bumper or washer tank out.

You might find these to be helpful:

It is possible, yes, but at the expense of time. Remove the bumper (actually not even all the way, just get the driver side to pull pull away from the car a little bit) and you can do it in under an hour. Or, you could leave the bumper and washer tank on, and spend a lot longer lying under the car while twisting and pulling etc. with little clearance to work with. I tried going down this road when I removed my fog lights, several hours later I ended up removing the bumper partly. Also, there is not enough clearance between the fog lamp and the washer tank to twist the lamp out, either the washer tank or the bumper must give way, unless you are just gonna bend stuff out of the way.

You don't need to remove the bumper at all.

Remove the black panel. Then reach up with a ratchet and extension.

It helps if the front of the car is raised. Easiest way is to drive the car up onto a couple of planks.

Yeah, 15-20 minute job on a lift.

New projector fogs

Just had the bumper off for some work - upgraded and replaced fog lamps with aftermarket projector style…

After installing, and going to plug in wire harness…I was very glad I installed my new Philips CrystalVision Ultra 4000 bulbs on the bench…the bulb is against the washer bucket.

I didn’t measure…but this image shows aftermarket and OEM HELLA being about the same depth…

Taking off the bumper is really easy. Just, no one ever writes about the front rubber clip tabs in the bumper that align/go under the headlight in the corner of the fender - just know they’re there…

Aftermarket fog lamp on left, OEM HELLA on right

Aftermarket project fog lamps

9006/HB4 light is able to touch windshield washer reservoir bucket…I haven’t fully aligned bumper to fenders nor tightened it all down…but if it stays this close…I’m putting foam between them, at least.

New projector style fog lights with Philips 4000 CrystalVision Ultra bulbs. (Note, height is high here are car is on jacks and safety stands.)
