advice on how to route audio wires for installing audio system

I have a 2005 C230 and I am looking to install my old system into this car. Its just a spacesaver type system....amp/sub combo. Anyways, what i'm looking for is how/where some of you guys routed the wires and the location of where you tapped the wires. I will be using the factory headunit since i have the aux cable input. I was thinking of tapping the audio wires located in the passenger side area where you pull up the plastic step piece. Also, is running the power wire behind the fuse box in the engine the best way? I've searched a lot of installs for using aftermarket systems, but I haven't found any for doing a stock install other than using the aux cable. One more thing, does anyone know what wire to use for the amp turn on wire?
