Weird clunk/thunk/thump from rear end
Hello everyone!
I have a 2001 C320 with 103,000 miles on the clock. She has been pretty much 100% until late last night. I am getting a weird clunk of some sort from the back. It is not suspension related, as it seems to happen only at slow speeds and only while slowing down. I'm not sure if it's the differential or what, but it does an odd jerk/thunk that I can feel in the car. I am going to be doing the trans service, as well as a differential fluid change but I am trying to spread them out over the next few weeks because they aren't the cheapest of services. However, if I should prioritize one over the other, I will in order to avoid this issue.
Any help is appreciated!

The diff service should not be expensive.

I heard opinions that you don't really need to change the diff fluid that early.
Apparently even in some trucks the fill is lifetime.

I just hope it fixes that little issue I had.

Out Of Control!!
I'm sure that changing the fluid will be a good thing in the overall scheme of things, but don't think it will have any impact on your thunk, if it is in fact the diff. But you never know; Benzes are weird.

This is the rear subframe bushings that are causing the thunk. They are oil filled and over time they split and break. In my case only one was broken. There are 4 bushings on your rear subframe 2 in the front and 2 in the back. The front ones are oil filled and the rear is solid, i replaced the front ones and it solved the issue.
A car this age needs most of the rubber parts replaced...
Mine were made by Meyle and we're sold by Autohauz, but they look like they are sold out... eBay perhaps..
