Hello!
I own a 2004 C240 and the rain sensors are not working. The wipers are new and I just had it looked by a mechanic and he said that the sensor is built in to the windshield. Is this true? Can't I just change the sensor?

I have read over and over that the rain sensors on these cars tend to act up over time, or just quit working. The sensor is apparently right behind the rear view mirror, directly on the windshield. Mine generally work, but can act up here and there. I've chosen to ignore it as the cost of replacing is more than the free of charge act of turning them on myself.

Its mount is installed in the windshield but the sensor is adhered in a specific location and if it moves even just a little it will cause them to now work correctly if at all. When my windshield was replaced earlier this year it was off and caused them to now work at all. When the glass shop moved it less than 1mm they started to work perfectly. I did have them reinstall it again and then I used star to reset it.
So yes you can just replace the sensor but make sure you have the correct glue to make a good location.
