Battery draining (due to cluster)
I know there are plenty of threads on this but I read almost all and did not help me.
I have a 2002 C240. About a year ago, I woke up and my battery was dead. I went to a mechanic and he sold me and expensive new battery. Two days later, it was dead too. The same guy tried to sell me alternator but I got it checked at several places, both battery and alternator are fine.
The interval of battery death got shorter and shorter and now it lasts only 2 hours. I am using a portable jump start and it is too annoying.
Finally a Mercedes place I kind of trust told me that it is cluster that drains battery (new one is $2,000 and a repair is $800). For a car, that is at most $2000, of course I don't want to pay this.
My problem is definitely not the seats by the way I tried it.
Anyways, when I remove fuse 42 (fuse for cluster) all the lights that were not working starts working again (any interior lights such as lights on windows button, lights of AC etc). Also, when fuse is not removed and if I turn beams on, light of radio fades as well but with removal of fuse 41, radio's light became bright again.
So, did any of you ever experience this before? Especially cluster's being blocking many interior lights? Any cheaper solutions you would suggest?
I would truly appreciate it.
Thank you all!
